The Sapphire Years

about

The Sapphire Years is about a couple of oldies but goodies performing a song about pushing time away, and celebrates hanging onto youth and hustle in their golden years. I've always imagined this as a final act in a play. The song disintegrates as the curtain falls on the final chord.

lyrics

Ninety nine six foot two
He’s standing right in front of you
He’s still got a foot in the door
And he’s working hard for something more

I’m trying
I’m trying
I’m trying
To push time away

I’m trying
I’m trying
I’m trying
To push time away

Five foot four
One hundred and one
Thought I’d finished but I’d only begun
Getting set up
To slow myself down
Gonna speed up
We can turn this around

I’m trying
I’m trying
I’m trying
To push time away

I’m trying
I’m trying
I’m trying
To push time away

We’re still here
And everyone’s gone
The days get harder and the nights are too long
We’re always willing
To try it again
We’ll never finish and we’ll always pretend

I’m trying
I’m trying
I’m trying
To push time away

I’m trying
I’m trying
I’m trying
To push time away

We’re the type of kids that are never gonna stop
We’re the type of kids that are never gonna stop
Cuz the kind of kids that stop are the kind of kids that drop
We ain’t never gonna stop
We ain’t never gonna drop

We’re the type of kids that are never gonna stop
We’re the type of kids that are never gonna stop
Cuz the kind of kids that stop are the kind of kids that drop
We ain’t never gonna stop
We ain’t never gonna drop

We’re the type of kids that are never gonna stop
We’re the type of kids that are never gonna stop
Cuz the kind of kids that stop are the kind of kids that drop
We ain’t never gonna stop
We ain’t never gonna drop

We’re the type of kids that are never gonna stop
We’re the type of kids that are never gonna stop
Cuz the kind of kids that stop are the kind of kids that drop
We ain’t never gonna stop
We ain’t never gonna drop

We’re the type of kids that are never gonna stop
